........... and WE DID IT!!!!

After 69 total walks, nearly 332 miles in just shy of 90 total hours - we can officially say WE WALKED EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA.

What seemed like an almost unattainable challenge on October 1st, when we stepped out onto our first official walk (on 2nd Street in Chapman Heights) turned into quite the adventure and something we looked forward to with each walk.

Through rain and shine, on asphalt and dirt, in mobile home parks and along pot-holed streets - WE DID IT!!!

Today we wrapped up this journey with a beautiful morning walk down Yucaipa Blvd. from Flag Hill Park.  We got to hear piped in music along the Historic District and we passed many of our citizens out for their morning strolls.  We walked the sidewalks until 14th Street and then had to deal with the infamous lack of sidewalks in town, for the bottom half of the blvd.

Follow our last journey, through the our eyes, in the pictures below.  We hope you've enjoyed our blog and maybe our walks have opened your eyes to things in our community that you might not have know existed.  I think, if nothing else, Jill and I hope that our journey might encourage others to get off their couches and out of their cars and see our town at street level - because it truly is a beautiful place to live!!!

ONE MORE LEFT......

YEP.....  one more route left before we finish our challenge to WALK EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA.

Today we woke up early to get in a vigorous 10 mile walk.  We started up at the top of Avenue G (on Jefferson) right by the water reservoir and ended down on Calimesa Blvd.  If you're unsure exactly where Avenue G is, its between Avenue H and Avenue F.....  And if you've been in Yucaipa long enough, you will know that Avenue F is now called Wildwood Canyon Road.  So basically Avenue G is that LONG street that runs right down the middle of the wash!!!

Our walk took us UP and DOWN 9 major hills - Bryant Street, California Street, 3rd Street, 5th Street and 6th Street.  We walked up every hill to Avenue H and then to Wildwood Canyon - just to be sure we didn't miss any part of any street!!!

Some pros and cons about this walk - PROS....  no traffic on Avenue G, lots of animals (horses, geese, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, emus, parakeets, and donkeys), quiet and Avenue G is level; CONS.....  TRASH and lots of it on the side of the hills going up Bryant, California and 3rd, no sidewalks or paths to walk going up and down these hills and drivers taking these thoroughfares TOO FAST!!

ONE MORE WALK LEFT.......  That's right after nearly 5 months, we will be finishing up this challenge tomorrow with our FINAL walk!!!!  We will begin at Flag Hill Park at 8:00am and walk the 6 miles down to Baker's on Avenue E and Yucaipa Blvd.  Along this route we will pick up our final mobile home park as well.  If you see us on the Blvd. tomorrow morning, feel free to honk and wave - or better yet....JOIN US FOR OUR FINAL WALK!!!

As for today's walk..... I hope you enjoy seeing our community through our eyes in the pictures below.....
