What are we doing outside in 43 degree weather???

What in the world are we doing on a Saturday morning at 6:34am, in 43 degree weather, walking the hills off of Casa Blanca, Pendleton, Highland and Date Streets???  Are we crazy or what???

This morning's walk was a brisk 7 mile route starting at Casa Blanca and Oak Glen Road and up and down all the little side streets to Highland and then Pendleton.  Pendleton brought on a little surprise in the form of a small pack of coyotes!!!!  Yes, here we are, just the two of us with only a cell phone in our hands, walking down the isolated part of Pendleton when Caballero says (and I quote) if we're going to run into Coyotes it would be around here.  An I proceed to say.... I wouldn't be worried unless they were in a pack.  and....LO' AND BEHOLD..... not one but two (maybe more - we couldn't tell behind the brush) huge coyotes about 20 feet from us!!!  That would be about the time we picked up our pace and luckily they must have been full cause they walked the other direction (so a note to any of you planning to walk these areas - take a walking stick)!!!

So we continued down to Fremont Street a d then wound our way back up to Date Street and Pendleton to end this walk.    Every Saturday morning that we chose to get out of bed early and take these walks has proven to be well worth it.  Not only for our health, but to see the shear beautiful of our town.  This coming week we will finish the area east of Bryant and north of Yucaipa Blvd.  Feel free to join our walks.

Racing the daylight cause of the Winter Solstice......

As the days get shorter, our walks do to as we race against the setting sun to get our walks in.  Today we started our walk at the Yucaipa Valley Historical Society Museum (bet you didn't even know we had such a place in town, huh)!!!  Our 3.5 mile walk went up Panorama and down Date Street.  Lots of little cul-de-sacs along this route with lots of walkers and their pets.

The best thing though was us getting recognized by a couple people.  Being asked if we are the "walkers" gives as a chuckled as we bask in the light of our celebrity status..... haha!!!

Jill will be traveling over the next couple of days to bring her boys home from college, so we won't be walking again until Saturday morning.  But Saturday you can join us for a vigorous, hilly, walk starting at Casa Blanca and Oak Glen Road.  We will be covering streets along Casa Blanca, Highland, Pendleton and Fremont Streets - lots of hills but a great calorie burn and a great way to start our weekend.  We would love to have you come along as we continue our quest to WALK EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA.

Panorama to Pendleton to Oak Glen Road.........  lots of hills, huge homes and BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS!!!

Today's walk started at the very top of Panorama (yes we cheated and walked downhill) and wound its way up Pendleton (through the wash) and then down Oak Glen Road.  The homes off of Oak Hill Lane and Deerbrook Road are all beautifully decorated for the holidays and well worth an evening drive by to see them.

The days are getting shorter this month, so we are trying to beat the darkness with our weekday walks.  Today was only 2.85 miles, but we saw some gorgeous sunsets towards the end.

More walking tomorrow!!!  Our quest to WALK EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA will begin at Panorama and Bryant.  These next few weeks will take use through the streets east of Bryant and north of Yucaipa Blvd.  Lot's of streets, cul-de-sacs and HILLS to conquer in this next area!!!

Another beautiful day in Yucaipa where our quest to WALK EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA took us to the very top of Carter Street and ended at the Stater Bros on Bryant.

Drive to the very top of Carter Street and you'll find the entrance
to El Dorado Hiking Trail.  We have done this trail many times,
and it is a beautiful trail for families and pets.

....and we ended this part of town at SHAFER RANCH.

After 27 days of walking, we have covered 121.53 miles in the City of Yucaipa.  We have encountered horses, dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, donkeys, goats, sheep, hawks, blue jays, tarantulas, rabbits, joggers, walkers, runners, and bicyclist.  Each walk brings different things for us to see and a new prospective on our little town.  We have now walked EVERY street north of Oak Glen, all the way to Highway 38.  We have walked all of Chapman Heights, Dunlap and the area behind Arco and the I-10.  Our quest to WALK EVERY STREET IN YUCAIPA, will take us to the area south of Oak Glen and East of Bryant beginning on Monday - can't wait to see what we see along those streets!!!

Open spaces, beautiful land and.........CHICKENS!!!

Our walk through the streets of Yucaipa took us from up on the top of Fir Street all the way down to Stater Bros on Bryant. These streets took us past huge beautiful homes, large open fields and lots of ........ CHICKENS!!!!

The open spaces in this area are large and beautiful rolling hills.  It appears there are lots of hiking trails or dirt paths up here - many of which we want to try when we have a little more daylight.

Tomorrow we won't be on the streets, but Saturday morning we have a long walk planned that will begin up at the very top of Carter Street (at the entrance to the El Dorado hiking trails).  Come join us at 7:00am - t's a great way to start your weekend!!!
